I would like to help him in his search and organize all the information, and present each family member with a family-tree poster. I think it's essential to pass along family knowledge down to generations.

Surnames of interest: Beronhaeuser
Comments: The spelling of Beronhaeuserin was on my 3rd grgrm wedding record (1770)located at Trinity Lutheran in Lancaster, Lancaster, PA. This is the only place I have been able to find it in the USA. I have found this spelling in Germany and Switzerland in the IGI at the Family History Center/LDS. In Lancaster in 1752 there was a John Milton Bernhausal whose surname was spelled many different ways, a widower who had remarried. I don't know if my Christiana Beronhaeuserin was a child by his first wife (unknown), whether she was born in this country or elsewhere. I feel she must have been one of a kind or the spelling of surname was changed by other family members in this country, if she had any here. Her first son, Johan Jacob Orthgiess was named for his f/f, her 2nd son was named Johannes (which could have been after John Milton above), 3rd son Adam had same name as father's oldest brother. The 1st dau. had the same name as her mother; the b. order of the other daughters is not known. One was named Mary Ann, which could have been after her f. mother, Maria Sabina Schuetz Orthgiess. You can see why your info caught my attention. Would dearly love to attach parents and place of birth to my Christina! She and her husband left Lampeter Twp. and next lived in Strasburg, VA area. After the Rev. they bought land in KY, where they died. She had her 1st child in 1771 and the last one in 1798(documented). So, I calculate she was b. abt. 1750-52. I've written all of this to let you know how much I appreciate your sharing you knowledge and info.

Comments: My great aunt Arminta Smith worte a personal family history book for my grandfater, her brother. In the book she wrote that their grandfather Edmund Smith was born in Pennsylvania in 1820, of parents known as Pennsylvania Dutch, they were in immigrants from Holland. She also writes that she has no record of his fathers family except that Edmund had one brother named Franklin Smith. Parents did not speak English only Dutch. Now I am assuming that they were German not Dutch. I can not find any record of Edmund after he and his wife were divorced in Ohio. I do not know where to begin looking.

Comments: This web page was very helpful to me!!! I'm at work tonight so I don't have all my info, but I'm looking for info on Nathaniel (born 1791) and Nancy Ann (Schneider, Snyder?)Lewis who came from Onterio in the early 1800s to Montgomery Co.Ohio, then to Hagerstown Indiana. They were active in the "German Baptist Chuch" which later became the church of the Brethern. They are my gr,gr,gr,gr grandparents. I'd like to find Nathaniel's father. I know the Schneiders were originally from Penn, Maybe the Lewis's were too, but I can't be sure. There is a rumor that his father may have been Nathan Lewis a Loyalist, but there is no poof of this. Another thing I'd really like to ask is...Is Lewis a German name? The Lewis's seem to be closely connected to German's, yet, Lewis is a Celtic surname. My distant cousin told me that decendants of a count Zinzendorf(??), who was cloesly related to the Movarian Brethern, changed their name to Lewis when they came to the states.

My research for the ancestry of HERBERS started some 20 years ago, when I got into contact with a distant relative who lives in river Falls, Wi. We found out his great-grandfather and my great-grandfather were brothers, who lived in the border area of Holland and North Germany, in the Emsland. His great-grandfather left from Nieuw Schoonebeek, Netherlands in 1880. These people were not really Dutch and my mother-dialect still resembles German or PLAT DUUTS. Long live the internet for global understanding. Thanks, Gerard Herbers

Comments: I just saw your site for the first time this a.m. and it is interesting. I like your typical German music. The first generation or so of my family in PA were given the prefix names of Johann and Anna. That plus an anglicized name from Gohn to Coon (which is perfectly logical to myself as I am German speaking and a linguist) gave me problems in proving my ancestry for DAR.

Comments: After reading this page I decided to try to trace my family back and see if maybe my family would link into yours in some way. I haven't done much yet but today I went to an old cemetary and got some names. One I thought was interesting was I. Jacob Laudenschlager. He fought in the Revolutionary War. I know the local Historical Society has done some research on him. I was wondering if you might have heard of him or might be interested yourself. He was in CO A 6 PA Regt. Born June 3, 1764. Died April 14, 1845. I read in your paper that families often have the same names. I found alot of Josephs, Johns, Jacobs and Jonas, . I noticed on the decendant chart for Johan "Heinrich' Lautenschlager there were alot of those names. Maybe some relation? If you have any information or would like any on the Laudenslagers I found please let me know. I am sorry if this is not what you wanted in the comment box. I am still very new at this. Thank you for your time. Erin Laudenslager

Comments: The first I find my family, Michael/Elizabetha Kleber are in what is now Fredericksburg in Lebanon County with births recorded at "Swatara," beginning in 1732. I have searched for 28 years seeking to move back a generation or to learn when they emigrated and from where. It is good that I am a patient man. At various times I have been convinced that Michael Kleber must have been a world class swimmer, because it is plain that no boat carried him to the colonies! Thanks for the information in the sites. Best wishes.

Comments: The early Dutch immigrants to New Netherland either had no surname or never used it. The early Dutch civil and church records used the patronymic system of naming children, relatives and porents. It was only after the English took over the Dutch colony, that the Dutch were forced to get and use a surname. Even this, however, took decades to settle down. The result is that descendants of the same man often selected different surnames, which continue today. I visited this site, expecting to find a formal explanation of the patronymic naming system. The Germans apparently used a similar but quite different system. Visiting this site was an interesting learning experience for me. Thank you.

Comments: We once visited Bird-in-Hand, PA and had the opportunity to talk with elder people in their original dialect which we could surprisingly well understood. For us it sounds similar to some good old alpine dialects still used by Swiss people and people from the Black Forest region. So this was a real topic of our journey.

Comments: Can not get anywhere on my family until I can get a better location in Germany other than "Saxony". Have tried census, naturalization, immigration, etc. records and can not find out where they were from. The emigrated in 1885 to America, and all the older family members don't recall ever hearing a location. Any help would be appreciated in finding a location in Germany.

I believe are still part of the Mennonites or Amish of today. I'm hoping some of them kept the beautiful German ways of old alive today.

Also, he was listed in Orange County, NC prior to coming to Surry. He was among the Quaker group... Adams, Hutchins, Martin, Brown group that migrated to Surry/yadkin NC

Comments: I am searching for my biological mother named Erma Mueller or Wagner. The child Maria Muller(with two dots over the vowel u), as shown on the baptismal was born on October 25, 1952, in Roethenbach, Pegnitz, Germany. The child was adopted to a French creole family in Louisiana, and given a legal name of Catherine Denise Meullion. If you can direct me to whoever can help me find Roethenbach, Pegnitz, and a person who lives there with a computer, I can chat with that person via e-mail. My e-mail address is: cdm8747@usl.edu

Comments: Looking for information on SAMUEL CORL (adb 1801) and his wife TABATHY ORIN? (adb 1803). They were both born in PA somewhere and later ended up in Stark Co, Ohio. I haven't found a marriage record or anything in Ohio and don't know where to look in PA. Family names include Daniel, William, Jacob, and Samuel. Also I'm searching for information on any Corls that pop up on historical records. I am in contact with other Corl researchers to share any Corl information as we find it.

Comments: My father's surname is Cripple, his father was full blooded German but his family had immigrated from possibly Hannover, Germany about 4-5 generations ago. I found you explaination of german naming customs interesting due to the fact that my oldest brother was named after my paternal and maternal grandfathers and my second brother was named after my father. Makes me wonder if that was from his German hertiage. Thanks for the information I received from your site.
